In the Past fortnight I have been asked to review, on Amazon, two new and very diferent book's. I was so proud to do so. I've never reviewed anything before in my life, so this was a first. Because it is a first, I thought I would blog about it. So here it is, done on my boys new iPad.
First book was Taunting the Dead by Mel Sherratt. It is a fantastic crime thriller, set in Stoke on Trent. It is a real page turner, murder, mayhem and sex. Great and unforgetable characters. Before I wrote my review, I looked at other peoples reviews to see how it was done. They all start with a brief outline of the story then give a critique of the writing, the plot, characters ect. I found it very difficult to do all these things. Mel's book is a cracker and I liked it very much, so that is my honest critique of the book. Hope you liked it, my review that is. And if you like a good gritty thriller, then Taunting the Dead has it all, you can get it for your Kindle. I urge you to do so.
Next up was, Masks of the Moryons by Trish Nicholson. I found writing this review if anything, harder. It is all about the legend of Longinus and the celebration of holy weak on the Phillippines. This event is unique to a town called Mogpog on the island of Marinduque. Moryons wear masks which are hand made for them. They roam around the town in the week leading up to Easter. Trish joined in with her own mask wich was made especially for her, it does not seem a very pleasant thing to do in that particular climate. It must have been very hot. I loved this story and thought Trisha's writing superb. Why I found it hard to write the review was, because it was a factual account and not fiction, which is, apart from the odd history book, the only books I read. As with Mel's book I absolutely loved Masks of the Moryons. It's on Kindle and I also urge you to read it.
Well that is the story of my first steps into literary review. I'll be back to Shakespeare on my next post so don't worry. This was a lot Of fun writing on Tom's iPad, hope the spelling is ok I can't work out if it has a checker or not. I better give him it back he's giving me funny looks. Thanks for the loan Tom.
